World No. 5 Ana Ivanovic suffered a shocking first-round defeat at the 2015 Australian Open. Ivanovic lost 1-6 6-3 6-2 to Czech qualifier Lucie Hradecka.

Ivanovic, who was a quarterfinalist in Melbourne last year, easily won the first set that lasted 21 minutes as Hradecka struggled to find her form in the first round match. Hradecka, who ranks 142nd, established her rhythm in the second round and raced through the third set to seal her victory over the Serbian.

Ivanovic only had two aces compared with Hradecka's six. She had 10 double faults and 30 unforced errors. Her head-to-head record with Hradecka is now tied at 1-1.

Speaking after the match, Ivanovic admitted that her level dropped in the second and third set. She added that she fought back to find her pace, but just wasn't able to do so.

"It's really disappointing, it's probably the worst thing that could happen," Ivanovic said after the match. "But still, the year is young and I really have to now sit and work on few things and just maybe try to have a different approach to this kind of event and try to see what was lacking."

Hradecka, on the other hand, revealed that she was feeling nervous during the first game, but she held her ground with the support of everyone who went to see the match at the Rod Laver Arena and managed to pull through. It was Hradecka's third career win against a top five player. Hradecka will play against Wang Qiang of China in the second round.

Other first round casualties include Karin Knapp (lost 6-3 6-2 to Simona Halep), Belinda Bencic (lost 6-2 6-1 to Julia Goerges), Alexandra Dulgheru (lost 6-3 6-4 to Jamila Gajdosova), Sabine Lisicki (lost 4-6 6-4 6-2 to Kristian Mladenovic), Svetlana Kuznetsova (lost 6-4 6-2 to Caroline Garcia), Tatjana Maria (lost 6-4 7-5 to Shuai Peng), Wang Qiang (lost 3-6 6-3 6-2 to Polona Hercog), Ana Konjuh (lost 6-4 6-4 to Magdalena Rybarikova), Chanelle Scheepers (lost 6-4 4-6 6-2 to Anna Schmiedlova), Paulene Parmienter (lost 6-1 3-6 6-2 to Stefanie Voegele), Evgeniya Rodina (lost 7-5 6-1 to Karolina Pliskova) and Renate Voracova 6-1 6-2 to Lara Arruabarrena).
