To kick off this year's award season, the 40th edition of the People's Choice Awards is set and ready to honour the industry's most successful TV shows, movies and celebrities for 2013. The annual event is happening tonight, Jan 8, at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, California.

The first award of the night goes to a hit TV series "Orange Is the New Black" for Favorite Streaming Series, and the award marks down the beginning of Tinseltown's "award season." The 2014 People's Choice Awards will start this year's flurry of honours and will be followed by Sunday's Golden Globes, the Screen Actors Guild Awards, the Grammys and the Oscar.

For this year's big nominations, A-list celebrities like Sandra Bullock, Robert Downey Jr. and Ellen DeGeneres are competing in various categories, covering last year's TV shows, movies and music.

Katy Perry is leading the nominees with five nods for the music category, hot musical show "Glee" with 8 nods including one for Favorite Network TV Comedy. With plenty of trophies on hand, everyone will go home tonight as a winner for being recognised for their hard work and dedication for their craft.

Britney Spears' Britney Army, One Direction's Directioners, Katy Perry's KatyCats, Lady Gaga's Little Monsters and Demi Lovato's Lovatics are up against each other for "Favorite Music Fan Following." These artists are the ones that feed the heavy traffic on social media and making waves in the Billboard chart.

"Iron Man 3" and "Fast & Furious 6" are two big budgeted movies of 2013 that are up for "Favorite Action Movie." For "TV Bromance," "Glee's" Blaine and Sam, "Castle's" Ryan and Esposito and "Supernatural's" threesome Sam, Dean and Castiel are the nominees.

The star-studded show will be hosted by the two on and off cam BFF's Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs of CBS "2 Broke Girls." This will be the first hosting gig of the two stars and they couldn't be more excited for another opportunity to showcase their funny side.

Stars who are expected to grace the event includes Justine Timberlake, Britney Spears, Drew Barrymore, Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dovrev, Sean Hayes, Anna Faris, Norman Reedus, Shemar Moore, previous host Queen Latifah and Sarah Michelle Gellar.
