The Kansas City Royals entered the 2014 Major League Baseball (MLB) World Series without a postseason defeat. That changed on Tuesday night when the visiting San Francisco Giants dominated them in Game 1 of the baseball world championship with a 7-1 victory.

The Royals will try to bounce back on Wednesday for Game 2 of the best-of-seven series.

The Giants did it early and often too; send home three runs right off the first inning and added two more each in the fifth and seventh to earn an insurmountable 7-0 advantage. Madison Bumgarner shut out the Royals practically all night before he gave up a home run in the 7th.

Michael Morse, Gregor Blanco and Joe Panik had RBIs for the Giants and stopped the Royals' eight-game winning streak in the postseason. Hunter Pence had a two-run homer and Pablo Sandoval was responsible for a couple of Giants' runs.

15 of 17 teams which took Game 1 of the last 17 MLB World Series has went on to take the championship.
