The New Year means new fashion trends, and here are some styles to look out for this year.

Color blocking

From Tommy Hilfiger to Marc Jacobs, designers have released their Spring 2012 collections with designs that have striking, bold color block patterns. Not only is this style flattering to all body forms, but color blocking is very versatile when it comes to pairing. Dark oranges, reds, pastel colors, violets and indigos are going to be big this year, so stock up on clothes with these hues as they will be in style all year long.

Bold Prints

Bold prints are always in style no matter what era or year, as long as it fits the style guide of the coming months. Abstract prints are always in fashion, especially if they are paired with light tones and muted colors. Graphic prints are big on t-shirts and tops, with designs ranging from artful illustrations to simple, edgy prints.

Short Suits

It's 2012 and if you're a power woman, skirt suits are out. Short suits are what's in this year, and designers Nanette Lepore, Jenni Kayne, and fashion house DKNY are taking this chic twist to the business attire to the next level by incorporating pastel colors and edgy silhouettes for the modern day professional fashionista.

Pastel Colors

Just like monotones, pastel colors never go out of style. Some of the biggest fashion icons (Kate Middleton, Kate Hudson, Olsen twins, Miley Cyrus, Rachel Zoe, Lauren Conrad) have worn many pastel-hued creations for the past year, and it seems that the trend isn't going anywhere. Pastel dresses are always a big hit for lunch meetings, parties, and dates, as well as tops and pastel accessories.
