Emma Watson's speech on feminism has started an online storm of sorts. The 24-year-old actress was UN Goodwill Ambassador, and in her speech on feminism, tried not so much to talk about male oppression, as to invite men to contribute, according to Daily Mail. In a stormy backlash, one unknown organisation called 4chan put out an allegedly fake threat to put up her nude photos, while even pro-feminists called her speech as lacking strong proposals.

However, the supporters too have been strong. The most impressive recent support was from St Albans schoolboy, Ed Holtom. The 15-year-old's letter took only 20 minutes to write a letter that was published in Sunday Telegraph. Ed claimed that he was upset that many of his classmates were ignorant, and did not realise how lucky they all were to live in a western world in which women can attack stereotypes. He also wrote that a feminist is a person who believes in the social, political and economic equality of the sexes, agreeing that if we want equality, it will take more effort than giving women equal pay or opportunities. While it is important to stop comparisons, and put behind the feelings of insecurity and self doubt, he also said that "we should stop caring about gender, stop caring about another person's sexual preference, stop caring about how far someone fits in with the stereotype and stop caring, most of all, about how much we fit this stereotype, we must not let gender define us."

On Saturday, Emma also called for support for the HeForShe campaign, which espouses feminism's principles of fighting for equal rights in political, economic and social circles.

In March, Mlambo Ngcuka had declared the 'HeForShe' campaign, asking all fathers, sons, husbands and brothers to support gender equality. She pointed out that the Inter-Parliamentary Union has shown 22 percent of parliamentarians being women. In 100 countries, there are laws that prevent women's involvement in the economy, and it will probably take another century to bring equality. By 2020, some 140,000 girls will be forced into child marriage.

UN Women gave a list of the HeForShe supporters, including actors Matt Damon, Patrick Stewart, Antonio Banderas and Kiefer Sutherland, and South African Nobel peace laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu. While the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon had said that Emma "has been waving a magic wand", with the packed hall of UN delegates giving her a standing ovation for her powerful speech, there was also a storm of tweets from celebrities including comedian Simon Pegg, author Neil Gaiman and actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt. They were all supporting her position as well as HeForShe. Joseph has even started working on a documentary on what feminism means to different people.

Emma had said that feminism is not 'man hating'. The men have to take up the cudgels for their women. She was stalked by sexism even at the age of eight, when she was called "bossy" for wanting to direct school plays. At 15, her girlfriends were forced to drop out of sports teams as they never wanted to look "muscly", while at 18, her male friends could not express themselves properly.

Reactions from organisations on Emma's speech have been diverse. The Vagenda's Rhiannon Lucy Cosslett claimed that Emma's speech "was a real watershed moment for me," while the Telegraph called it "incredible." A transgender activist and model Geena Rocero said she "couldn't agree more" with her. Everyday Sexism's Laura Bates told MailOnline: "The cowards who have tried to silence Emma with threats of leaked photographs have only proved her point a thousand times over." While some critics call feminism to be in its "fourth wave," many claim that it should be "inclusive and open as possible."

While her speech offended many right-wingers, with many threatening to leak nude photos online, one 15-year-old, Ed Holtom, wrote a letter,
