Cyrus Villanueva is the latest singer to join the ranks of “X-Factor Australia” winners. He was crowned this year’s champion after beating Louise Adams and singing duo Jess & Matt during the competition’s grand final decision night held Tuesday, Nov. 24.

Villanueva has already expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the support that he received during the competition. In a Twitter message to his fans, he wrote, "I never thought I would have made it this far - through the ups and the downs! THANK YOU!"

As he starts off his music career with Sony Music Australia, here are 10 things to know about the “X-Factor Australia” 2015 winner.

Cyrus Fact 1: Villanueva is a 19-year-old singer who lives in Wollongong, New South Wales and was fresh out of high school when he auditioned for “X-Factor Australia” last summer. He was born to an Australian mother and Filipino father.

Cyrus Fact 2: Villanueva inherited his love for music from his father who is a full-time musician known as Jo Vill. In an interview with The National, the “X-Factor Australia” 2015 winner credited his father for nurturing his interest in music. He also joined his father on music gigs as a roadie, before going out on his own and performing in weddings and cafes.

Cyrus Fact 3: The singer, who was mentored by “X-Factor Australia” season 7 judge Chris Isaak, grew up listening to classics and music greats such as Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Nat King Cole and Stevie Wonder.

Cyrus Fact 4: The “X-Factor Australia” fan favourite learned how to play guitar and piano under his father’s tutelage. However, Villanueva revealed during an “AskCyrusandBigT” Twitter session held in October that he also took piano lessons for two years when he was 10 years old. After that, he improved through practice and playing tunes by ear.

Cyrus Fact 5: The first time that he and his family knew that he had a talent for singing was during a family Christmas holiday in the U.S. where he sang “Oh Holy Night.” He was six years old at that time. Villanueva told The National that it was the first time he and his family discovered that “music was in [his] blood.”

Cyrus Fact 6: In last month's “AskCyrusand BigT” Twitter session, Villanueva revealed that his celebrity crush is Rita Ora. He also dreams of collaborating with Alicia Keys someday. Meanwhile, the late king of pop, Michael Jackson, is Villanueva’s favourite singer.

Cyrus Fact 7: The “X-Factor Australia” winner, whose rising popularity was described as “Cyrus virus,” is known as a humble and very nice person. This was also mentioned by Isaak during a Radio X Factor interview, according to Yahoo 7 TV. “Cyrus is off-camera the same as you see him onstage – smiling, working hard! Such a nice guy,” he said.

Cyrus Fact 8: One of Villanueva’s favourite performances in “X-Factor Australia” season 7 was his rendition of Isaak’s “Wicked Game” which is currently at the fifth spot on Australia’s iTunes chart.

Cyrus Fact 9: Villanueva is the second singer with a connection to the Philippines who won the “X-Factor Australia.” The first is 16-year-old Marlissa Punzalan who nabbed the winning title in 2014.

Cyrus Fact 10: The “X-Factor Australia” 2015 winner’s debut single, “Stone,” is at the number 2 spot in Australia’s iTunes chart after Adele’s hit “Hello.” Villanueva is also set to release his self-album on Dec. 11.
